Requirements for Volunteer Fire Fighters

  • Must live within the area covering Rodd Field Road to Flour Bluff, Naval Air Station or Padre Island.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Volunteers will be responsible for the following:

  • Will be required to pay a $20.00 fee for the first year membership in State Firemen's and Fire Marshal's Association.
  • Must be able to obtain a class B drivers license within one year of being approved for membership.
  • Must turn in a copy of your driving history to the fire chief with your application and then every two years after that as long as you are in the district.

  • Must have completed 70 hours of training and be introductory certified or higher to respond to emergencies.
  • Will be required to attend at least 50% of all training and 25% of all fire calls.

A commitment to training is required to be a member of this district. Training is held on Monday nights at 1900 hours (7:00 p.m.). If you are unable to attend one of our training meetings, you need to call and inform us. We provide training to help you get familiar with fire fighting and to assure you obtain the required number of training hours to be Texas State Certified.
